We have Received the Miracle of the Holy Fire

The Holy Fire ( Ἃγιον Φῶς, “Holy Light”) is described by Orthodox Christians as a miracle that occurs every year at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem on Holy Saturday. The Holy Fire happens annually on the day preceding Orthodox Pascha (Orthodox Easter), in which a blue light emanates within Jesus Christ’s tomb (usually rising from the marble slab covering the stone bed believed to be that upon which Jesus’ body was placed for burial) now in the Holy Sepulcher, which eventually forms a column containing a form of fire, from which candles are lit, for the Greek Patriarch of Jerusalem and which he interns comes out of the tomb of Christ and light the candles for the clergy and thousands of pilgrims in attendance. The fire is also said to spontaneously light other lamps and candles around the church. Pilgrims and clergy claim that the Holy Fire does not burn them while the Holy Fie is in Jerusalem. A plan was charter to bring the Holy Fire to the United States. While I was in Denver, Colorado this past week. The Holy Fire was given to me. I will offer the Holy Fire to anyone in our Community this Sunday following Divine Liturgy. If you can find a votive candle please bring one to light and take home with you.

Christ is Risen,

Fr. John
